Good News for Symbolic Interaction

The latest Journal Citation Reports have just been published.  They show that the journal has recovered from last year’s dip in its impact factor to 0.400 and registered its best result in the last five years to record a score of 0.811.  This has raised its ranking from 102nd to 70th out of the 137 journals listed for Sociology.  As symbolic interactionists, we know that all metrics need to be treated with some scepticism – but there are important people in universities who treat them as real – so they have real consequences.  This improvement will count when people come up for tenure review or when newly–minted PhDs are looking for jobs.  It is a good result but your editorial team, and our publishing partners, are committed to doing better for the SI community. You can all help us by sending in great papers – and do think about whether you can slip a citation to recent publications into anything you are publishing currently!
