On Early View- Dimitri Shalin – “Goffman on Mental Illness: Asylums and “The Insanity of Place” Revisited”

Just out on Early View is Dimitri’s Shalin‘s analysis of Goffman’s ‘The Insanity of Place’. In his article Shalin uses biographical information about Goffman and his family to reexamine Goffman’s analysis of mental illness and mental institutions. For the analysis Shalin draws extensively on the Goffman Archives where relatives and contemporaries offer accounts of Goffman’s life and work.
