There is renewed interest in the Frankfurt School as well as a growing interest in public sociology and the impact of sociological research on policy and practice. Save for a Routledge companion to the Frankfurt School there are historic accounts of the work of Adorno, Horkheimer and other proponents of critical theory like Stuart Jeffries recent “Grand Hotel Abyss” that draw attention to not only the past of the Frankfurt School but also its current influence and relevance.
In his book “Erich From and Global Public Sociology” Neil McLaughlin has brought together a discussion of the work of one of the key scholars of the Frankfurt School, Erich Fromm, with the current debate about public sociology and the impact that sociological can or should have on policy and practice. David Nock has reviewed McLaughlin’s book for Symbolic Interaction.
