We have just published Femke Vandenberg’s article “Put Your “Hand Emotes in the Air:” Twitch Concerts as Unsuccessful Large-Scale Interaction Rituals”. In her paper, Vandenberg explores “mediated concerts” disseminated via Twitch as a growing form of music consumption and investigates if interaction rituals can be accommodated appropriately in the virtual sphere. Vandenberg finds that the online sphere is better suited to small-scale interaction.
